Grey Gardens
Grey Gardens could've very well been America's first jab at reality t.v., however it was far from it. It was infact the very sad story of mother and daughter duo Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale("Big Edie") and Edith Bouvier Beale("Little Edie"),caught on camera for the world to see and pass judgement on. For those of you not in the know, the Beales of Grey Gardens were an affluent New York City family that had an estate in East Hampton, called the "Grey Gardens". After Big Edie's husband abandoned her and Little Edie underwent heartbreak, both professionally and personally, the duo continued to live there and slipped into a life of seclusion and insanity as they ran out of money and lived in abject poverty. In 1975, their dysfunctional lifestyle was thrown into the media juggernaut, when a film crew decided to turn their eccentric way of being, into a documentary.
A STILL FROM THE MOVIE
LITTLE EDIE IN THE 70's
The Beales have been referenced and depicted many a time in pop culture. Little Edie was cousin to iconic first lady Jacky Onassis Kennedy, along with playing muse to John Galliano's spring summer 2008 show. Their life was also immortalised by Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore in the HBO original movie 'Grey Gardens'.
JOHN GALLIANO SPRING-SUMMER 2008
On the surface, their life is one that not many would identify with. But if you dig a little deeper, you'll realise that what happened to the Beales, could very well happen to any of us. For can we really predict whether we'll be able to hold it together in the face of adversity, or will we also wither away like the Beales, when life doesn't quite turn out the way we had imagined it!

All you need is Love
I do realise that this post is way overdue(considering the Fashion's Night Out took place a good two months ago), however i'd like to think it's still relevant within the Indian sartorial context, and even if it's not, i'm going to post it anyway. Wished i'd bought more stuff, that, and the fact that reaching the Vogue pop up store two hours before I ended up reaching, would have helped tremendously in ensuring that I didnt end up going back home, a sad and disgruntled shopper, who had but a measly Gayatri Khanna pouch(for lack of a better term) to show for his time and contribution to Vogue's global initiative to boost the high end retail sector. Although I did have a good time, for free booze and endless conversation doth a happy man make.

WIFW SS-2012 Roundup
They say as you grow older, you get a better insight into your self, and the thing I've realized about myself is that i'm a fiercely competitive person. I like to call it the 'shiny new toy' syndrome wherein I get obsessed with something and go all out to get it, and after having gotten it, I get bored and move onto the next thing. Now I know that this is not a very nice quality to possess, but I am only human, and am trying to overcome this vice, and I'm sure that with age I will surely get over it. Now I do realise my loyal readers are not my therapists, hence I will stop with the ranting and rambling, and save that for an actual shrink. Not to say that I treat my blog like a ''shiny new toy', but yes in the recent past I did get a little too pre-occupied with the mad dash to get more followers and web-hits, actions that in retrospect seem totally uncharacteristic and quite honestly immature. I don't know why I felt the need to compete in the first place, cos quite honestly, I blog because I love doing it, and feel like it will serve as a learning curve for ultimately building a career in fashion journalism and design.
So recently I got to go for the spring-summer 2012 editon of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, and thanks to my friend Nayantara(who was nice enough to lend me her DSLR) I unleashed my inner shutterbug and went clickity clack clack(sounds that a camera makes, just incase i lost you there).

I do realise that my posts have been terribly sporadic of late, but college and other important matters keep me tied up. I will however assure you (like I aways do after every post) that i'll try and be more regular. Peace out!

Hysteria
It was a picture of hysterical madness at the recently held Fashion's Night Out, and for once the brands, and not the celebrities were the show stealers.

Of Beehives and Braids
This post is going to be short and precise.Alex Wang's spring summer 2010 runway presentation had a huge impact on me, and I was especially inspired by the sexy, messy dishevelled braids that the models sported in the show. Here's my somewhat tamed take on it.
This post is also dedicated to Amy Winehouse, who joined other music greats Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin by being the latest talented-as-hell, tormented musicians to die at the tender age of 27.Wino you will be missed dearly, but will continue to live on through your genius music.R.I.P.

Pretty Reckless
The post title is a nod to my current favourite band that goes by the same name. It's fronted by Little J herself, Taylor Momsen, whose sartorial outings on Gossip Girl are totally lust-worthy. Talking of good girls gone bad, there's something to be said of girls who let their wild streaks get the better of them!I mean i'm all for women's lib and girls not being reduced to the stereotypical role that society expects from them and am a firm believer in the saying, 'people need dramatic examples to shake them out of their apathy', but in light of recent movies such as 'Bad Teacher' and 'Easy A' wherein the heroines are far from saintly and the Casey Anthony trial, I have to say that acting reckless and selling your soul to the devil isn'nt really worth the 60 minutes of fame, let alone 15.So let the acts be dramatic, but not to the extent where you find it difficult, to not only live down the incident, but also to live with yourself!

Hello, Goodbye.
The post title is actually kind of ironic, considering that this month you shall be seeing more of me.Like I mentioned earlier, I went back home for a bit, which gave me the opportunity to stock up on outfit posts, and hence you shall be seeing more of me,way more!
Talking of goodbyes,I recently saw the series finale of 'The Hills' (like I mentioned here, in India we've gotten accustomed to watching shows that are a few seasons old). So anyways it feels like the end of an era, that began with the start of that other much loved Mtv show 'Laguna Beach'.
Goodbyes are never easy, but in most cases almost inevitable.Hence we must learn to be more at ease with them. Now I shall put an end to this philosophical trip I am currently on, and leave you with the wise words of Dr. Seuss- “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”

Pocketful of Dreams
Call it childhood nostalgia or simply my need to sit back and unwind,i've always associated summers with vacations and a langurous pace of life.So about a month back I packed bag and baggage and headed back home, and as it turns out, a well deserved holiday is just what the doctor ordered. Now i've got to admit, that in the past couple of days, i've become a bit of a couch potatoe having gotten hooked to terribly cheesy yet widely entertaining shows such as 'Huge' and, brace yourself, 'The Fashionista Diaries'.And as much as I hate to admit it,I now can't do without my daily dose of the 'reality' series which features six young professionals trying to make it in the cut throat New York fashion scene. However what really drew me to the show was the presence of a certain Kathleen Pierce,VP of Public Relations,Flirt Cosmetics(or atleast she was way back in 2007, f.y.i. here in India we've gotten accustomed to watching shows that are a few seasons old).So anyway, Pierce is one of those bosses, who does'nt take pride in living up to the bitchy stereotype that most bosses in the fashion industry have come to have, and while she may be no Kelly Cutrone, she most certainly is a star in my books.Talking of things close to my heart, our humble little blog just completed one year. What started out as an exercise in voicing our opinion on pop culture and fashion has now culminated into somthing much bigger, and we could'nt have done it without all of you.Now before this starts to resemble a really sad acceptance speech of sorts, I'll wind up.Do tweet us or find us on Facebook to let us know what you think of the blog, posts, writing etc. or just drop in to say hello!

Down The Rabbit Hole
For the longest time, i've been fascinated with the wonderfully madcap world of 'Alice In Wonderland', not so much Tim Burton's special effects infested take
on it, but rather Gwen Stefani's zany recreation of Wonderland in her 'Watchya waiting for' video. And while I may not understand rabbit analogies pertaining to certain sci-fi pop references(read:The Matrix's follow the white rabbit), I most certainly 'get' and love the thought behind the sentence 'down the rabbit hole', words which have the ability to magically transfer us to a place where playing dress up and indulging our every whim and fancy is of prime concern. And in today's scenario, I think the Harajuku girls best embody the essence of that philosophy, and as Antonio Marras, creative director of Kenzo, quite aptly put it, "it(Japan) is the last wonderland where anyone can feel like alice", so in the spirit of Alice and all things whimsical, i indulge my inner 'wonderlander' in what I call my homage to the Harajuku girls.Super kawaii?

Pretty eyed, Pirate smile, You'll marry a music man.
I've never quite gotten my head around the resurgence of the 70's trend.I mean I tried incorporating it into my wardrobe by donning(or atleast trying to don) a wide brimmed sombrero(that I bought from Accessorize last year), but the results were less than spectacular! I blame lookbook for making us regular girls believe we can pull off one of those! Trust me it's not as easy as it looks(infact posing in a hat-of any sort- without looking like a narcissistic schmuck is kind of hard to do). Anyhow I went with this easy breezy pleated white blouse from Mango, and while 'the look' might be more Ali Mcgraw than Jodie Foster(in Taxi Driver)-read:untrendy,I love it just as much! What do you guys think, yay or nay?

Summer Lust Haves: Part Uno
Okay so I know we've been M.I.A. for the longest time, but we(read: I) had a legit reason:sometimes just sometimes, final exams take priority over blogging, and hence that leads to no new blog posts for over a month. But now that we're back, be sure to get regular post updates.
A lot has happened in the past one month. John Galliano's life has started to resemble a really sad story(I mean it doesn't get any worse than being fired from your own label), Christopher decarnin has left Balmain(why oh why would he do that? and more imporantly whatever will the house of Balmain do without him?) and inarguably fashion's biggest night (second only to the Oscars, and the royal wedding perhaps-did Kate and Pippa look stunning or what?)-the MET gala took place, and in a sea of Stella Mccartneys and Zac Posens, Ginnifer Goodwin did the unthinkable and turned up in a green Topshop number;needless to say, she looked stunning. Okay now any girl whose confident enough to rock a high street dress at an event which is plagued with designer couture , gets an A+ in my books!
Here is a list of our summer 'lust'(cos must doesn't quite do it justice) haves.Enjoy!
1. peach high waisted shorts 2. floral high waisted shorts 3. lennon sunglasses 4. ASOS knotted thin belt 5.ASOS floral headband 6. ASOS beige oxfords 7. ASOS cross ring
Oh and btw i'm now a blogger for 911 fashion:FCUK'S official blog, so head on over here to read my very first post.

They all come here to find a scene But end up girls on methadrine Naked on a TV screen
Sorry for the lack of posts(and the lack of decent outfit posts),but as I mentioned i'm upto my neck in submissions, and because i'm in a professional design college, I can't get away with copying off my friends at the last minute and the perfectionist that I am(haha I still can't say that with a straight face),it takes me extra long to get everything just right!
Anyhow this post is not about the torture they put us through in college(I kid),but it is actually a post to introduce ya'll to my tumblr account. And so, withoutsounding like a tumblr obsessed maniac further ado, i'll let the pictures/gifs do the talking. For more awesomeness, check out my tumblr account here.
and oh,rihanna's back to her dirty(read: sexed up/dark) ways with her new single s&m.
