Life in Technicolour

This season Dolce and Gabbana realized that the runway is not just a platform through which they can live out their deep dark oiled to perfection fantasies(wink wink) and came out with a commercially viable(read:something people would actually want to wear) collection targetted at their key demographic-fashion forward gentlemen, such as myself, ahem. So there were drain pipe pants in a myriad of colours paired with high tops, pop art inspired sweat shirts/jumpers and bulky fur trimmed jackets-it was basicsally D & G's take on what Gucci does best, and should probably have the monopoly on(considering nobody else can quite seem to pull off the whole preppy thing like them). All in all a good showing, the only downer though? The clothes would've looked better on skinnier models and not the buff adonises that they usually send down the runway!

My take on the trend:

Au Revoir!

As many of you might already know,Carine Roitfeld has resigned as editor-in-chief of French Vogue and will soon be replaced by Emmanuelle Alt.Roitfeld quit in December of last year afer she faced much criticism for a fashion editorial featuring minor girls. So now the woman who came up with the ingenious idea of shaving the Gucci logo into a female model's pubic hair and inspired the character that threatened to take over Miranda Priestly's job in 'The Devil Wears Prada' has fallen from grace and how. It's funny how one wrong move can wipe away years of hard(might i add groundbreaking)work.Life sure can be a bitch at times,Ms. Roitfeld would most certainly agree!

Bloggers and online communities have been having a field day with this major folly of hers:

Amazing Grace

I recently saw the documentary 'The September Issue'(which does little to dispell Anna Wintour's ice queen image) and almost instataneously fell in love with fashion's most famous red head-Grace Coddington(ex- model and creative director for American Vogue). Her zest for life and unflinching dedication to her work-reinvigorated me and instilled in me a new found love for the wonderfully indulgent world of fashion(yes, sometimes I can get terribly cheesy)

These images kind of remind me of Grace(the fiery red hair might have something to do with it).

Takes the phrase 'bee stung lips' to a whole new level,eh?

These images are from an editorial titled 'The Devil Wears Anna' in 'Candy' magazine.I think it's hillarious. And incase you did'nt notice, those are drag queens dressed up as Anna Wintour,Grace Coddington and Tavi Gevinson.

What were they thinking?(Golden Globes Edition)

...well obviously they were'nt,what else would explain these disastrous sartorial choices at the 2011 Golden Globes.

Ermm,is this an attempt to promote the Green Hornet and Green Lantern movies?the dress is not bad per say,but not loving it on Angie(for once the usually effervescent Ms. Jolie had no one turning 'green' with envy)

The picture speaks for itself.Mrs. Warren Beatty(Annete Benning) just because you're a certain age does not mean you can get away with wearing, uhmm whatever it is that you were wearing.Take a page out of Dame Helen's (Mirren) book, and dress better!

Firstly, the length of this pink Lanvin concoction is all wrong,it should've ended at the knees.Secondly it most certainly is'nt the right dress for the gorgeous Julianne Moore. It makes her look like a frumpy mess, and the colour clashes with her raven hair.

Leighton Meester looks matronly in this Burberry Prorsum gown. From the hair to the bag,she gets it all wrong.

On her big night(she won best actress drama for 'Black Swan'),Natalie Portman looked nice inspite of her dress. After months of wearing Dior and Rodarte' while promoting 'Black Swan',this surrealistic Victor and Rolf gown was clearly not the right choice.Maybe her stylist thought the rose would take the attention away from her belly?

Best Dressed: Golden Globes 2011

Sandra Bullock looks lovely(and years younger) in this pale pink Jenny Packham number. Also,is it just me or does she look a lot like Rachel Bilson here?

Anne Hathaway looks like a bonafide glamazon in this shimmery Armani Prive' gown(which in my opinion seems a bit inspired by Balmain, notice the power shoulders?)

Eva Longoria has the whole old Hollywood thing down pat in Zac Posen.

Halle Berry looks smoking in this lingerie inspired Nina Ricci dress.WOW, a break-up does really do a body good!

While i'm not a fan of her flowy Valentino gown,Michelle Williams seems to have nailed the whole breezy 70's flower child vibe that seems to be dominating runways this season(Mia Farrow would be proud).

While i'm not too sure about this cut-out Versace number,January Jones does complete justice to it and how.Though this dress is probably meant for somebody not as well endowed as ms. Jones, ahem.

Pretty Girl Rock

This is one helluva make-over if there ever were one.W magazine provides us with the first look at David Fincher's much hyped 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' adaptation and the images which show Rooney Mara(who is poised for stardom having bagged the title role) as a bad-ass brunette are nothing short of spectacular. The fresh faced Mara is unrecognizable, having gotten her lip,eye-brow,nose and nipple pierced to play the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander (ouch!that's gotta hurt :s).The movie's only gonna be out early next year, but going by the first look,I for one cannot wait!

O-M-GEE! She's a He.

Andrej Pejic is an 18 year old Croatian male model who has seriously redefined the definition of beauty(male beauty perhaps). With his high cheekbones and pouty lips,Andrej could sure give the Karlie Klosses and Chanel Imans of the world a run for their money. He's already worked with fashion bigwigs Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier, and with his New York Fashion Week debut this Feb,expect him to become HUGE!
